MAHLER’S TITAN: The Romance, Death and Triumph of a Young Musician details the extraordinary circumstances around which Mahler wrote what many consider the greatest first symphony of any composer.

ON MAHLER’S SONGS OF A WAYFARER reveals the personal romantic turmoil that inspired the composer’s first masterpiece.

Conductor Neeme Järvi and baritone Thomas Hampson are two of the world’s leading interpreters of the music of Gustav Mahler. In this 2017 concert with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Järvi leads a personal and moving interpretation of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, including – as a separate piece on the program – the beautiful but rarely heard Blumine, which was originally the Symphony’s 2nd movement. The program also includes Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (“Songs of a Wayfarer” ) sung by Thomas Hampson.

Musical examples in both films are performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Neeme Järvi; Thomas Hampson sings the Wayfarer Songs. PCM Stereo / Dolby Surround Sound 5.1, Wide Screen, NTSC (Playable all regions), 97 minutes.
