Boulder, Colorado, home of the Colorado MahlerFest, is located 25 miles northwest of Denver, situated at the foot of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Mahler himself couldn’t have asked for more inspirational scenery! In fact, the similarities to the locations in which Mahler spent his summers composing is part of why MahlerFest is here. There is even a mountain nearby named after Mahler. Read the story here.

Getting Here By Air
Air Transportation
You can fly in/out of any Denver metro airport but the one most people use is Denver International Airport. The Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is the only commercial airport closer to Boulder but it only hosts a few commercial flights.
Ground Transportation
Options for transportation to Boulder from Denver International Airport include:
- RTD SkyRide – easy, convenient, and cheap. Take a bus to Boulder and then walk, take a bus, or a ride share to your hotel or AirBnB.
- Car Rental – all of our events are close to downtown Boulder and cheap to access with a ride share, but you may enjoy being able to explore further afield in a rental car.
- Eight Black Shuttle – door to door service
- Rideshare like Lyft or Uber – The Denver International Airport is about an hour from Boulder so this can be a pricey option

Explore Boulder
The folks at Visit Boulder are great. They have lots of ideas of what to do in and around town. Full disclosure, they also support us with a grant. They have restaurant suggestions but we’ll offer some of our own when we post the full schedule for the season (coming soon). One thing we’ll mention here, people love going up to Nederland. It’s about a half-hour drive (or take the bus) up Canyon Boulevard. There are some good hikes of all sizes, some good food, and the Carousel of Happiness!
Boulder Weather In May
Boulder’s mid-May weather is usually temperate; warm days and cool evenings with occasional afternoon thundershowers and less occasional snow showers or hail! So check the weather prior to your trip.
However, prior to your trip, check the weather!
