Trombone Masterclass with David Taylor

On the “Opening Night: Visions of Childhood” program, David Taylor will perform Mahlerei, a reminagining of the Scherzo from Mahler’s Fourth Symphony for bass trombone and chamber orchestra. In this masterclass, Taylor coaches trombone players from the MahlerFest Orchestra and other local trombone players.

 

Violin Masterclass with Alan Snow

Alan Snow is the concertmaster for the MahlerFest Orchestra this season and is the Associate Concertmaster of the Minnesota Orchestra. In this masterclass, Snow coaches violinists in solo repertoire.

Wagner Tuba and Alphorn Introduction with Lydia Van Dreel

Lydia Van Dreel is the MahlerFest principal horn player and a professor at the University of Oregon. In this program, she will demonstrate and talk about two unique instruments that horn players will be using in the performance of Strauss’s Alpine Symphony.

Nick Pfefferkorn is the publishing director of Breitkopf & Härtel and the editor of the newest edition of Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony, the edition being played on Saturday evening’s performance.
