In Collaboration with Positive Legacy

Mahler Strolling in the Alps

Mahler and his music are intimately tied to the outdoors. Mahler, of course, spent his summers composing in the Alps. Our Founding Artistic Director, Robert Olson, studied conducting on a Fullbright Scholarship in Vienna where he also was captivated by Mahler’s music. Upon his return to the States, Olson was reading a Mahler biography, sitting on the shores of Lake Dillon near Breckenridge, and recognized the similarity between the Colorado landscape and Mahler’s summertime composing environs. Thus was born Colorado MahlerFest; a direct result of the natural beauty of our location and Mahler’s Alpine summers (read more of our history here).

Because of the importance of our environment both to Mahler and his music as well as the MahlerFest Community, we are collaborating with Positive Legacy to weave an environmental service project into MahlerFest XXXVI. Positive Legacy integrates music and service to benefit people and the planet.
