Baritone and MahlerFest Fellow Joshua DeVane is pleased to make his third appearance with The Colorado MahlerFest, exploring the Arnold Schönberg chamber orchestration of Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. Praised by Opera News in 2018 for his “robust, fruity baritone” and “fine legato,” Mr. DeVane enjoys a busy performance schedule across the country that features operatic roles, orchestral soloist work, and chamber ensemble repertoire. Most recently, he has performed along the Front Range with Boulder Opera (Signor Deluso in Pasatieri’s Signor Deluso and Alfio in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana) and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic (soloist, Finzi’s In Terra Pax). Previously, with the festival, he has performed both Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen song cycles. Mr. DeVane is a versatile musician who is also active as a voice teacher, vocal coach, pianist, and choir director. A native of the Savannah, Georgia area, Mr. DeVane moved to Boulder in 2015, and is a graduate of CU Boulder’s Master of Music Program, where his voice teachers included baritones Patrick Mason and Andrew Garland.
