Hannah Benson is a classically trained mezzo-soprano from Grand Island, Nebraska. She received her BM in Voice Performance from Wheaton College and her MM in Voice Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. She is currently working towards her Artist Diploma in Opera and Solo Voice under the private instruction of Abigail Nims at the University of Colorado – Boulder. Benson has portrayed roles including Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Ruth in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, and Ma in Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land. In the summer of 2024, Benson performed as a chorus member in the Bravo! Vail Festival production of La bohème under the direction of Yannick Nezét-Séguin with The Philadelphia Orchestra in Vail, CO. Most recently in the fall of 2024, she made her debut with CU-Boulder Eklund Opera as die Hexe in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. In the spring of 2025, Benson will be performing as Ruth in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance with CU-Boulder Eklund Opera.
