Aaron Cohen has a varied career centered on music, audio and media. He is an award-winning radio producer and an accomplished musician, and also serves as New York Public Radio’s Director of On-Air Operations. His most recent project, the podcast and radio series Embrace Everything – The World of Gustav Mahler, an independent production currently in its third season, has topped music history and commentary podcast charts around the world.
Aaron joined New York Public Radio in 2000 and has worn several different hats within the company since then, both as a producer of radio documentaries and an essential member of the on-air team. A notable highlight of his time as a producer is The Ring & I, a one-hour radio documentary about Wagner’s Ring Cycle, which he co-produced with Jad Abumrad in 2004. The program won more than ten awards and continues to be broadcast around the world to this day. Aaron also produced the New York Public Radio documentaries Clash of the Titans: An Exploration of Verdi & Wagner in 2013 and Music is a Holy Art: A Celebration of Richard Strauss in 2014.
Additionally, Aaron has produced numerous programs beyond his work for New York Public Radio. From 2007 to 2012, he produced more than 50 features for the Metropolitan Opera’s Saturday afternoon broadcasts. He has also produced radio features for the CBC, opera broadcasts for WFMT, and classical music podcasts for American Public Media.
