MahlerFest XXXIV celebrates the return of live music, culminating in a gala concert featuring Mahler’s Fifth Symphony alongside the world premiere of another five-movement Fifth by visiting composer Philip Sawyers, a leading British symphonist. The festival week also includes “Decadence and Debauchery,” a FREE chamber orchestra program featuring music of the Roaring 20s from Chicago speakeasy to Paris burlesque to Berlin cabaret; a symposium with leading Mahler scholars; as well as chamber music and film.
